Following completion of his medical degree at Monash University, Dr Tomlinson worked at Monash Medical Centre from 1993 until 1997 where he trained as a general physician. In 1998 he transferred to the Alfred hospital where he combined anaesthetic and general medical training. He received his specialist qualifications from the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2002. He worked as a full time specialist anaesthetist at the Alfred for 5 years with a special interest in cardiothoracic anaesthesia, trauma and peri-operative medicine. He continues to work there regularly as a visiting anaesthetist. In 2007, he entered private practice and joined the Victorian Anaesthetic Group. He am a regular participant in the Maintenance of Professional Standards Program from the College of Anaesthetists.
