Mr Han studied medicine at the University of Adelaide, graduating in 1991. He worked as an intern and surgical resident at the Royal Adelaide and the Queen Elizabeth Hospitals in Adelaide. He undertook training in neurosurgery at Flinders Medical Centre, The Adelaide Children’s Hospital, Royal Adelaide Hospital and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Mr Han moved to Melbourne in 1995 and continued training at St Vincent’s Hospital and Monash Medical Centre. He was awarded FRACS in 2000.
Mr Han worked as a senior neurosurgical registrar in St Vincent’s Hospital in 2000 before undertaking further post graduate training in Western General Hospital, Edinburgh, a major neurosurgical centre in Scotland. He worked under the supervision of Professor Ian Whittle, a world renowned brain tumour specialist. He also gained vast experience in spinal surgery working with Patrick Statham and Tom Russell. In addition, he attended numerous conferences specific to treatment of brain tumours and spinal disorders.
Mr Han returned to Melbourne and established his private practice in Fitzroy. He has public appointments at St Vincent’s Hospital in Fitzroy and Monash Medical Centre at Clayton. He is also committed to medical services for country Victoria and provides regular neurosurgical visits to Warrnambool and Traralgon.
Mr Han is actively involved in training of junior surgical residents and registrars. He is the supervisor of training for resident medical officers in neurosurgery.
Mr Han has kept pace with the development of new techniques in neurosurgery, in particular, complex spinal surgery and artificial disc procedures. He has attended numerous courses, both in the United States of America and Europe, in complex spinal surgery for degenerative spinal disease and various techniques in instrumentation for spinal instability. Whilst he has subspecialised in spinal surgery, he also has special interest in aneurysm and tumour surgery.
