Dr Thomas Hardy is an ophthalmologist specialising in treatment of disorders of the eyelids, orbit (eye socket) and lacrimal (tear drainage) system.
He graduated from Melbourne University in 1994, training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. He trained as an ophthalmologist at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital from 1998-2000 before undertaking 5 years of post-graduate fellowship training in eyelid, orbital and lacrimal surgery in the UK, from 2001 to 2005. During this time he trained at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London for 3 years, Chelsea & Westminster Hospital for 1 year, and additionally in Cambridge, Salisbury and Southampton.
He has given presentations at scientific meetings in Australia and overseas, and has publications in scientific journals.
Dr Hardy is a consultant ophthalmologist for the Orbital, Plastic and Lacrimal Service at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, and the Ophthalmology Department of the Royal Melbourne Hospital. He is also the oculoplastics consultant for the ophthalmology department of the Royal Children’s Hospital.
His areas of specialty include:
Eyelid disorders, including skin cancers of the eyelids, and abnormal eyelid positions such as dropping of the upper eyelid (ptosis), entropion (turned inwards) and ectropion (turned outwards); Orbital disorders, such as thyroid eye disease, tumours, trauma, and problems associated with the loss of an eye; and Lacrimal disorders, particularly blockages of the tear drainage system.
