Dr Terence Poon is a Laser and Cosmetic Dermatologist. He was invited to practice at Central Sydney Dermatology in 2007 and has been a principal since 2011. He is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists and a Fellow of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. He has published extensively in leading scientific and Dermatology journals.
Dr Poon graduated with Honours from the University of Sydney. His research during university holidays while still a medical student resulted in the award of the Douglas Cohen Paediatrics Prize. An elective term during his medical degree sparked an interest in Dermatology and Dr Poon undertook Dermatology resident terms at both Westmead Hospital and the New Children’s Hospital.
Prior to completing his dermatology training, Dr Poon undertook further medical research in Dermatology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the University of Sydney. His groundbreaking research investigated the effectiveness of sunscreens in the prevention of skin cancer – a major health problem in Australia. Notable collaborations during this research resulted in the publication of scientific papers involving other scientists from well known international cosmetic companies. His research resulted in the award of a doctorate from the University of Sydney and the Cure Cancer Australia Young Researcher of the Year Award in 2005.
After finishing his specialist Dermatology training, Dr Poon undertook further subspeciality training in laser and cosmetic dermatology both in Australia and in the United States. His areas of interest include the use of lasers in dermatology for sun damage, facial rejuvenation, birthmarks, wrinkles and scarring. He is also very experienced in the use of botulinum toxin and dermal filler injections for skin rejuvenation.
Dr Poon is also currently the Medical Director at the Neutral Bay Laser and Dermatology Clinic on Sydney’s lower north shore. He continues to regularly attend laser and cosmetic dermatology conferences both in Australia and internationally.
