Susan qualified in medicine from Southampton University and trained as a GP in Northamptonshire and then back home in Cheshire. She was a GP in Manchester and York before moving to Alice Springs in 2000 to work for Flinders University. Alongside her academic role she was in private practice, and employed at the Aboriginal Medical Service. Susan moved to Canberra in 2015 and is a Senior Medical Adviser in the Health Workforce Division of the Department of Health. Susan moved to Canberra in 2015 and is a Senior Medical Adviser in the Health Workforce Division of the Department of Health and in 2018 was appointed as a Clinical Associate Professor at ANU. Susan has qualifications in medical education, child health, women's health and family planning and fits both Implanon and the Mirena intra-uterine system. In her time off she enjoys being with her family, making clothes, swimming and the challenge of learning to row.
