Dr Suresh Varma completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at Osmania Medical College in Hyderabad, India in 1979. He went on to complete his Doctor of Medicine MD (General Medicine) in 1983 and his Doctorate in Medicine (Medical Oncology) in 1992. He later became a fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians in 2010.
He has worked across India, Botswana and Bahrain and has been actively involved in training and teaching medical students both overseas and in Australia. In a previous position at the MNJ Institute of Oncology and Regional Cancer Care Centre in Hyderabad, Dr Varma initiated medical oncology services as an independent unit for the first time.
Dr Varma has been working as a Medical Oncologist in Townsville since 2008 and is passionate about top quality cancer care for rural patients. He is actively involved in research and clinical trials and is a principle investigator in major trials in solid tumours.
Dr Varma practices at Icon Cancer Care Townsville and is available for private medical oncology services in Mackay through an outreach service.
