Dr Sabe Sabesan graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery from Flinders University in 1995. He became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians in 2003.
After completing his internship at Alice Springs Hospital in 1996, Dr Sabesan developed a passion for equitable and exceptional patient care regardless of where a person lives. As a result, he pioneered the use of telemedicine at Townsville Hospital to treat patients with cancer who live in remote and rural areas. He is actively involved in research that looks to enhance rural oncology outcomes and has received several grants to support his research and develop systems that better serve rural patients.
Dr Sabesan is now a medical oncologist at Icon Cancer Care Townsville and sees patients both on site and via teleconferencing. He is an Associate Professor at James Cook University and is actively involved in curriculum design and coordinating oncology education.
