Stewart Hart was educated at Melbourne University and St Vincent’s Hospital Medical School gaining Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in 1978 and is a Foundation member of Breast Surgeons of Australia and New Zealand.

After some years practicing general surgery, Stewart has specialised exclusively in breast surgery for the last 25 years. He was the founding Head of the Monash BreastScreen program, the Monash Family Cancer Centre and the Monash Breast Clinic. Stewart is an adjunct senior lecturer in the Department of Surgery, Monash University and the previous head of Breast Surgery for Monash Health. He is also a consultant surgeon at Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute and Family Cancer Centre.

For many years, Stewart has been a member of the Australasian Breast Cancer Trials Group and also the International Breast Cancer Trials Group and has contributed extensively to clinical trials of adjuvant therapy for treatment of breast cancer. He has been the principal investigator for a number of clinical trials including the breast cancer prevention trial.

Interests include the imaging and treatment of early breast cancer and neoadjuvant treatment (using medication prior to surgery) for larger breast cancers. In addition to surgical practice, Stewart is a past President and Chair of the Executive Board of Cancer Council Victoria, a past director of Cancer Council Australia and a Fellow in Genetic Health, the Murdoch Institute.

Recently retired from active surgery, Stewart continues to care for his long term follow up patients and provide second opinions when required. He also continues his public hospital commitments at Monash Health and Peter MacCallum.

Stewart consults at his main rooms at 5 Chester St Bentleigh East and also at the Lorna Sisely Monash Breast Clinic at 212 Clayton Rd. Clayton.

Stewart and his wife Sandra are keen gardeners and active members of the Strath Creek Landcare group.
