Dr Buchholz joins HeartCare WA after previously working with HeartCare Partners in Queensland for 2 years. He also worked for over 3 years as consultant cardiologist in the public sector in Central Queensland, where he also held the position of Associate Professor with the James Cook University School of Medicine.
Dr Buchholz completed training in all aspects of general cardiology including cardiac MRI at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney before undertaking fellowship subspeciality training in advanced echocardiography techniques with Prof Michael Feneley at St Vincent's Hospital and St Vincent's Clinic, Sydney. He gained further expertise in CT coronary angiography at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA.
He is author and co-author of over 40 scientifc publications and abstracts in national and international peer-reviewed journals as well as an avid writer for several educational sections of Australia's leading independent medical publication for general practitioners.
Being able to expertly utilise advanced cardiac imaging modalities such as transthoracic, stress and transoesophageal echocardiography, Dr Buchholz is a diagnostic 'all-rounder'. Beyond a commitment to evidence-based health care, research and teaching, his particular clinical interests are in heart failure, cardiomyopathy and valvular heart disease.
