Dr Dishan Chandrasekara joined Albert Street Anaesthetic group in 2013, whilst on long-service leave from Austin Health (after 19 years), where he currently holds a full-time public appointment at Austin Health as a Senior Staff Specialist in Anaesthesia (2001-present). He has been involved in private practice since 2002 and has appointments at several major private hospitals where he provides anaesthesia for regular lists, including Cabrini Malvern for neurosurgery (2004-present) and colorectal surgery (2007-present), as well as Epworth Eastern for orthopaedic surgery (2008-present). His areas of interest and expertise include all areas of anaesthesia, especially for complex patients and complex surgery for elective and emergency lists, both in and after hours, as would be expected with a highly sought after full-time appointment at a tertiary/quaternary referral centre. There are very few types of surgery for which he has not provided anaesthesia. In particular, Dr Dishan Chandrasekara has extensive experience and expertise in anaesthesia for thoracic surgery, ENT surgery, orthopaedic surgery and neurosurgery. Dr Dishan Chandrasekara has always had a keen interest and expertise in teaching and training and assessing, and has a current appointment to the Panel of Examiners, Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. Dr Dishan Chandrasekara maintains professional standards by participating in the ANZCA Continuing Medical Education (CME) Programme, hospital meetings and local and international conferences. Dr Chandrasekara believes it is a privilege to perform anaesthesia well, a higher privilege to pass knowledge through teaching well, but confesses that examining is by far the greatest privilege, as well as the most demanding and most useful CME activity he has ever performed.
