Dr Coffey spent 12 months completing a clinical fellowship in arthroplasty and lower limb reconstructive surgery.
The fellowship was under the supervision of Dr W Chung, Nepean Hospital, Sydney Australia and observerships with Dr Lawrence Dorr, University of southern California, Los Angeles, Dr Wayne Paprosky, Rush Medical Centre, Chicago and Dr Mark Meyerson, Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore.
On return to Australia in 1998, Dr Coffey commenced practice at Nepean Public Hospital and Nepean Private Hospital. The Nepean Public Hospital is a teaching hospital of the University of Sydney, therefore advanced and basic surgical trainees as well as medical students are rotated under Dr Coffey’s supervision. In his capacity Dr Coffey is directly involved with the education of advanced orthopaedic registrars, medical students on an orthopaedic rotation and also physiotherapy students and nurses.
Dr Coffey is a regular invited guest lecturer at international and domestic scientific meetings. He is also an active member with a group of orthopaedic surgeons who conduct regular instructional courses in primary and revision joint replacement throughout Asia.
