Dr Shiraz Hassen has been working as a Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist on the Sunshine Coast for the last four years.
He did his graduate medical degree at the North Colombo Medical College in Sri Lanka. He qualified with Second Class Honours and the Gold Medal for the Best Medical Graduate in 1990. He went to New Zealand for his post graduate studies and did his Physician and Gastroenterology training in New Zealand. He obtained the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2005.
Dr Hassen worked as a locum Gastroenterologist at the Auckland City Hospital. He then worked for four years as Physician, Gastroenterologist and Head of gastroenterology department at Apollo Hospitals (Pvt) Ltd, in Colombo Sri Lanka. He moved to the Sunshine Coast in April 2009 and worked at Buderim Gastroenterology Centre, the Sunshine Coast Private Hospital and Nambour Selangor Private Hospital as an Associate Consultant Gastroenterologist, for eighteen months.
Dr Hassen’s interests are interventional endoscopy, hepatology and general gastroenterology.
Dr Hassen’s vision is to offer a comprehensive gastroenterology service to patients on the Sunshine Coast, including pH studies, high resolution manometry, impedance studies and other modalities of small bowel investigation.
