Dr Acharya is the Director of Diabetes services at John Hunter Hospital and also serves as the clinical lead for Hunter Alliance Diabetes work stream. He served as the diabetes clinical stream lead for Hunter New England Health from 2010 to 2015 and is highly involved in guideline developments, clinical audit and development of clinical pathways. He is currently working on development of diabetes registry with Hunter Alliance.
He holds conjoint appointment at University of Newcastle and involved in clinical trials and clinical research. His work has been presented in national and international meetings. He is passionate about educating healthcare providers regarding diabetes and conducts regular educational sessions.
Dr Acharya completed his medical degree from University of Mysore and subsequently lived in UK for 10years where he completed basic and advanced training in Endocrinology and General Medicine.
Referrals accepted for adult patients with type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, insulin pump therapy, general endocrine disorders, pituitary, thyroid and parathyroid disorders, hypogonadism, osteoporosis and antenatal endocrinology. A comprehensive review will be undertaken including any internal medicine related problems at consultation.
In house diabetes educator Hilary Fejsa and a dietitian will assist patients and the center has facilities for Continuous Glucose Monitoring and insulin pump start and stabilize program.
