Sally Baron-Hay, MBBS FRACP is a medical oncologist. She has clinical appointments at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney and Genesis Care, Northern Cancer Institutes and is a senior lecturer at the University of Sydney.
She completed her undergraduate training at the University Western Australia and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital before travelling to the UK. She worked in the Breast and Gynaeoncology Units at the Royal Marsden Cancer Centre, South Kensington, London where she developed her interest in translational oncology clinical trials. She completed her medical oncology training at RNSH, St. Leonards, and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Camperdown. Her basic research at the Kolling Institute, St Leonards investigated the role of Insulin Like Growth Factors in the pathogenesis and progression of Epithelial Ovarian Cancer. She received a NHMRC Scholarship and won the AACR Young Cancer Investigator award for this research.
Her main interests now focus on the clinical management and improvement in outcomes for women with Breast and Gynaecological malignancies. She is the Principal Investigator on clinical trials in both of these tumour subtypes run through both RNSH and NCI.
She is a supervisor and mentor for Advanced Medical Oncology Trainees through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians undertaking their training at RNSH and educating medical students in the medical oncology discipline. She sits on the eviQ Medical Oncology Reference Committee for Breast and Gynaeoncology treatment protocols.
