Dr Sharpe is a cardiologist with over 20 years clinical experience and has qualifications in endovascular, coronary and structural cardiac interventions. He was the first cardiologist in Australia recognised by the Colleges of Physicians, Surgeons and Radiologists as trained in Endovascular Interventions.

Dr Sharpe regularly proctors junior cardiologists in new interventional techniques and partakes in live, conference case demonstrations. He introduced one of the first Acute Myocardial Infarct Interventional Services in the Allamanda Hospital in 1999.

Dr Sharpe’s research interest is in relation to the impact of cardiovascular disorders on neurological function and disease. He chairs the PFO Research Foundation, an international research consortium which, amongst many studies is investigating “omic” variances in Patent Foramen Ovale disease states including stroke and migraine. Dr Sharpe’s sits on various US Medical Device Company Advisory Boards and is Adjunct Associate Professor, Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine, Bond University, Australia. He initially studied engineering before transferring to a Bachelors of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Queensland.

Outside of medicine, Dr Sharpe enjoys boating, kiteboarding and scuba diving. He also has a love of flying planes and helicopters and is Instrument Rated – a skill he uses to provide a monthly Indigenous Cardiac Clinic in western New South Wales.
