Dr Maskiell completed her medical degree at the University of NSW. Her immediate training was at Prince of Wales, Prince Henry (now closed), Bankstown and Sutherland Hospitals. She worked in the same general practice in the Sutherland Shire for more than 20 years before relocating to the Illawarra Family Medical Centre in 2009. Dr Maskiell has participated in a humanitarian medical mission to Uganda, and non-medical humanitarian aid to Bali and Kosovo. She is a Clinical Senior Lecturer with the University of Wollongong and is involved in teaching medical students from the University of Wollongong.  Dr Maskiell has three adult children and enjoys an active lifestyle.  She particularly enjoys her bushwalking group and participating in ocean swims and somewhat reluctantly joins her husband in cross-country running.
