Clinical Interests
Dr Rimer sees a broad range of medical, behavioural and developmental problems of children from birth to 18 years. Romi’s broad interests include acute medicine such as asthma, constipation and encopresis, eczema, allergies, growth monitoring, headache, abdominal pain, seizures and tics. She also treats behavioural issues such as toddler difficulties, tantrums, anxiety and developmental issues for example developmental assessment; autism spectrum disorder, school readiness and learning difficulties.
Romi’s area of special interest is unsettled babies and sleep.
Background and Experience
Romi graduated from Monash University and trained through the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) and in the United Kingdom. She works as a paediatrician at RCH through the Department of General Medicine and in the Emergency Department. Romi is the editor of the new RCH Paediatric Handbook and an expert reviewer for the Raising Children Network website.
Romi works as the hospital Medical Officer Coordinator and previously has been acting director of Junior Medical Staff Training and Support. She is actively involved in teaching medical students from the University of Melbourne and junior medical staff at RCH.
Practice Philosophy
Romi believes in holistic care and looking at all aspects of the child, not necessarily just what they have been referred for. Romi believes that all children are unique and should be treated accordingly and she proactively practices family centred care.
