Graduated from the University of Melbourne with first class honours in both Medicine and Surgery in 1982. He was awarded the Jamieson prize for Medicine and the Stirling prize for Surgery. He trained in Cardiology at the Royal Melbourne hospital and was awarded an N\H&MRC scholarship to complete a PhD in cholesterol research at the Baker Medical Research Institute.

Professor Warren specialises in interventional cardiac catheter procedures and obtained further angioplasty training at the Andreas Greuntzig Angioplasty Centre at Emory University in Atlanta Georgia USA.

He is currently cardiologist in charge of angioplasty at the Royal Melbourne hospital and also practices at the Melbourne Private and John Fawkner hospitals. He performs over 1500 invasive procedures each year, including high number of both elective and emergency angioplasty procedures.
