Dr Robert Sharp is the Orthopaedic Surgeon at Orthopaedics New England located in Tamworth and operates at Tamara Private Hospital. Dr Rob Sharp was born in Sydney. He spent a large proportion of his young life growing up in Papua New Guinea and returned to Sydney for his secondary education. He graduated from University of NSW with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery. He is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (F.R.A.C.S) as well as a Fellow of the Australasian Orthopaedics Association (F.A.Ortho. A). He is currently a Member of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons. During his years of medical training he spent many years working in rural communities before beginning the Orthopaedic Training Program. He also spent two years working in Antarctica as a medical officer. He has gained experience working with renowned arthroplasty surgeons Albert Greggori in Glasgow and Prof. Lutger Getersmeyer in Kiel, Germany. Dr Sharp has been practising medicine in the North West and New England regions since 1996. He is currently the only Australian trained Orthopaedic Surgeon living in Tamworth and working in the North West Region. Although his practice is based in Tamworth, patients are drawn from a very wide area . As part of Rotary International and the Orthopaedics Outreach Program, he heads a medical team which visits St Mary’s Hospital in Vunapope, East New Britain Province in Papua New Guinea. For his participation in the project he was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship by Rotary. See the photo gallery. As a rural based surgeon, Dr Sharp does not specialise in just one area of orthopaedics. Dr Sharp also participates in the “No-Gap Scheme” and as such patients have no out-of-pocket expenses for their surgery.
