Dr. Johanson joined Majellan Medical Centre in 2006 after completing general practice training in rural Victoria. He also worked in Papua New Guinea, Ireland and Cornwall. Dr Johanson has undertaken further training in public health, obstetrics and gynaecology, and Aboriginal health. Since 2009 Dr Johanson has worked in partnership with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders to develop an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-friendly practice (see separate article). Within the full range of primary health care, other areas of medical interest include skin cancer surgery, insertion of Implanon and Mirena contraceptive devices, shared antenatal care and aged care. During 2015-16 Dr Johanson took extended leave to travel and work around Australia with his family, with a focus and rural and Aboriginal health. He returns refreshed and glad to be back in Scarborough. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-friendly general practice. In 2009, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders from the Moreton Bay region approached Dr Johanson to form links with Majellan Medical Centre. At that time, the nearest Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander specific health service was over 30km away at Chermside. Since then, Majellan Medical Centre has become a major provider of primary health services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community of the Moreton Bay region.
