Robert graduated from the University of Melbourne and commenced practice as a consultant cardiologist more than 20 years ago. He received scholarships from the National Health and Medical Research Council and the Austin Hospital Medical Research Foundation, and was awarded Doctor of Philosophy in Medicine for his research on "Evaluation of Myocardial Contractile Dysfunction and Viability Related to Ischaemia". He worked as an associate at the Andreas Gruentzig Cardiovascular Centre of Emory University in Atlanta, USA which is one of the birthplaces of modern interventional cardiology. He is currently an interventional cardiologist at the Austin Hospital, and heads the Heart Care Victoria practice in Heidelberg. He has special interests in functional evaluation of coronary lesions using fractional flow reserve measurements, and complex percutaneous coronary intervention including rotational atherectomy and chronic total occlusion.
