Rob Bohmer is a consultant general surgeon with a special interest in upper gastrointestinal, hepatopancreaticobiliary, oesophagogastric and laparoscopic surgery.

His medical degree was completed in South Africa and his surgical training in New Zealand, followed by sub-specialist upper gastrointestinal and laparoscopic training in Adelaide (with professor Guy Maddern) and Scotland (with Sir Alfred Cuschieri). In Tasmania, he performed the first laparoscopic colon resection in 2002, the first laparoscopic liver resection in 2010, the first laparoscopic stomach and pancreas resections in 2011 and the first laparoscopic oesophagectomy in 2012.

His main work includes gallbladder surgery, hernia surgery, surgery for cancer and anti-reflux surgery. Rob Bohmer commenced consultant practice in Hobart (2002) based at the Hobart Private and the Royal Hobart Hospitals.
