Dr Richard Hillock MBChB FRACP FCSANZ is a New Zealand-born cardiologist and electrophysiologist. He joined SA Heart in 2007. Richard's expertise is in heart rhythm and cardiac device management. He has a special interest in the management of athletes.
Richard graduated from the University of Otago, New Zealand, in 1992, where he discovered a passion for tackling complex medical problems and improving the lives of others. He went on to complete his cardiology training in Christchurch and was awarded his Fellowship to the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2003. After moving to Australia, Richard completed his two-year Fellowship in electrophysiology and pacing at The Royal Melbourne Hospital in 2006.
With a keen interest in sports, Richard is active in the management and treatment of elite athletes and cardiac screening for major sporting clubs in Adelaide. Richard is a member of the South Australian Sports Medicine Association and has presented talks at SA Sports Medicine Association annual conferences. Learning is one of Richard’s lifelong passions. Throughout his career, Richard has continued to gain new skills and work with emerging technologies—especially current technologies in arrhythmias and pacing, including the latest ablation techniques.
Richard is a fellow of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand and a member of the Asia Pacific Heart Rhythm Society. He enjoys a career that allows him to talk to people, problem solve, and take on technically demanding procedures. In his spare time, he enjoys cycling around South Australia—including in the Santos Tour Down Under, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Australia’s One Ride, and other charity rides.
