Dr Richard Gardner trained in ophthalmology in Western Australia. He went onto a year of advanced training in general ophthalmology at Fremantle Hospital followed by 18 months at Moorfields Eye Hospital in the U.K. He then completed a year at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, an international centre for excellence in child health care. He is a consultant ophthalmologist at Royal Perth and Princess Margaret hospitals. His private practice is in West Leederville where he providing a service to both adults (general) and children (general and strabismus). He is a senior lecturer at the University of Western Australia, a clinical lecturer at the University of Otago and is on the executive committee for the WA branch of RANZCO having retired after two terms from the federal council of RANZCO. He has provided a service to the remote Ngaanyatjarra Lands Aboriginal communities for the last 8 years.
