Dr Prasanna Shirkhedkar is a general paediatrician with over 27 years of paediatric clinical experience. He has trained primarily at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Network in Sydney towards his FRACP in general paediatrics. He has held numerous public hospital positions in NSW and QLD, including senior staff specialist/ consultant positions. He also enjoys in teaching roles, both for MBBS students as well as paediatric trainees working towards FRACP qualifications. He has served on various QLD state-wide or Metro-North Health district’s clinical and administrative steering committees. His clinical experience includes wide range of paediatric issues and conditions related to all body systems, developmental issues, behavioural issues and neonatal medicine. He likes to work in partnership with parents and carers to achieve the best long term outcomes for children. He considers it vitally important to understand child’s temperament, environment and parent’s preferences to find the best options of making happier children and families. He derives immense satisfaction by helping children achieve their best health potential in safest and quickest way. Apart from being an excellent clinician, Dr Shirkhedkar believes in spending time to develop rapport with the child and the family. Being himself a father of 2 sons, Dr Shirkhedkar understands parents’ concerns and addresses them with empathy and good clinical judgement. His areas of special interest include developmental, behavioural paediatrics, growth disorders, care of neonates and infants, and allergic/ immunological conditions. He accepts referrals for the age group of 0 to 16 years. Children with seen prior to the age of 16 years can be followed up to the age of 18 years prior to transition to adult physicians and / to a suitable general practitioner. He is available for consultations two days per week at Specialist Medical Care Australia in North Lakes Specialist Medical Centre. Most first consultations are one-hour long. A referral from another doctor is required – either a general practitioner or another specialist doctor prior to consultation. A prior referral sent electronically from your doctor helps to categorise the urgency of appointment required for your child.
