Dr Harris completed the first half of his anaesthetic training in London and the second half at the Prince of Wales and Prince Henry Group of hospitals. His training covered all areas of anaesthesia.
Since qualifying as a specialist anaesthetist in 1983, he has worked exclusively on the Central Coast in both the public and private hospitals.
