Interventional Cardiology

Professor Aylward is the Director of the Division of Medicine, Cardiac and Critical Care Services of the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network. He graduated from Medicine at Oxford University and completed post graduate training in the U.K. and at Flinders Medical Centre. He did a clinical and research fellowship in the United States. He became a Staff Specialist in Flinders Medical Centre in 1986.

His clinical interests are particularly in acute cardiology and interventional cardiology. He has been an active researcher in the area of acute coronary syndromes and been on International Steering Committees and many of the trials to define the evidence base for this. His expertise is in interventional cardiology, having been involved in angioplasty since the mid eighties.

He is the Chairman of the Writing Committee of the National Heart Foundation and Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand Guidelines for the management of acute coronary syndromes. He is a member of the Clinical Senate in South Australia and Chairman of the Cardiac Outcomes Registry Committee of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.
