Dr Frank New is a Fellow of the College of Psychiatry (RANZCP) and of the Faculty of Pain Medicine (FFPMANZCA). Following graduation from the University of Queensland and specialty training he established this private practice in association with Dr Peter Field in 1986.
Dr New's office practice is in General Adult Psychiatry, with a special interest in Consultation Liaison Psychiatry, particularly Pain Medicine. He also provides Independent Medico-Legal opinions. He has been as a Visiting Consultant Psychiatrist to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital Multidisciplinary Pain Centre since 1984, and also consults at private general hospitals, most frequently Holy Spirit Northside.
Other professional activities include teaching at UQ, RBWH and medical CPD meetings, and several appointments with the Faculty of Pain Medicine, including as an Examiner.
He has an ongoing interest in doctors health, and is currently President, Doctors Health Advisory Service of Queensland (DHAS Q).
Dr New prefers to offer an approach which includes consideration of the many factors which predispose to personal distress and illness, including lifestyle, personal, family and social stressors. It has been demonstrated for a long time that management plans which attend to each of these offer the best outcomes.
A recent development has been the capacity to offer Telepsychiatry services for those in rural and remote areas. Further information about arranging Telepsychiatry consultations is available from the reception staff.
