Peter De Cruz is a Staff Specialist and Head of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Service at Austin Health in Melbourne and a Senior lecturer at the University of Melbourne, Australia.
Peter undertook his PhD in IBD at St Vincent’s hospital in Melbourne. His clinical research has identified the optimal strategy for preventing disease recurrence in Crohn’s disease after surgery. Peter’s research has also involved evaluation of the role of the gut microbiota in IBD.
Peter’s postdoctoral fellowship was undertaken between Addenbrooke’s hospital, Cambridge and St Mark’s hospital, London and focussed on the management of complex IBD including clinical nutrition, intestinal rehabilitation and small bowel transplantation.
Peter is highly trained in gastroscopy and colonoscopy and is the Medical lead of the State Endoscopy Training Centre.
Peter works closely in collaboration with surgeons, dieticians and psychologists to facilitate holistic patient centred care.
