Dr Vella completed his undergraduate medical degree at the University of New South Wales, after which he undertook anaesthesia training, completing terms at tertiary Queensland hospitals and Wagga Wagga Base hospital. His fellowship was in general anaesthesia and Crisis simulation at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane and the Royal Brisbane Hospital.
He currently holds the position of Senior Medical Officer at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, and joined Narcosia in 2015. He maintains the position of senior lecturer at the University of Queensland, and held a position on the ANZCA Queensland Regional Committee from 2010/11.
His areas of interest include anaesthesia for procedural sedation, interventional gastroenterology, plastic surgery and orthopaedic surgery, and the practice of neuroaxial anaesthesia.
