Dr Paul O’Farrell graduated from the University of Sydney with first class honours in 1997, with a combined Bachelor of Arts in music, psychology and philosophy. He was admitted to physician training through St Vincent’s Hospital and advanced training in gastroenterology with Royal North Shore Hospital. He returned to St Vincent’s Hospital for an elective year of training with a focus on immunosuppression in gastroenterology and therapeutic endoscopy. He was admitted to the Royal Australian College of Physicians in 2004. Paul was appointed as the teaching fellow in gastroenterology at Harvard University, USA in 2006-7. He also completed a fellowship in interventional gastroenterology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre.
