Dr Candemir graduated in medicine and surgery at The University of Sydney in 1994. His training in ophthalmology was completed at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne between 1999-2002. In 2003 he completed a fellowship in oculoplastic surgery at the Royal Eye Infirmary in Plymouth, England.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists and has been working as an ophthalmologist in Brisbane since 2004. In addition to his private practice in Coorparoo he is a Visiting Medical Officer at Greenslopes Hospital and holds a Senior Lecturer appointment at the University of Queensland Medical Faculty.

Dr. Candemir is married and the father of three children. In his spare time he enjoys a variety of outdoor pursuits including hiking, bird watching and photography. He has a lifelong interest in computing and technology. He was the under 16 NSW Chess Champion in 1986 and continues to have a fascination for chess and other games of strategy.
