Dr Nick Zdenkowski is a specialist medical oncologist at the Breast and Endocrine Centre and Lake Macquarie Private Hospital. He also works with the Australia and New Zealand Breast Cancer Trials Group as a Clinical Research Fellow and holds an academic appointment as a Conjoint Fellow with the University of Newcastle. He has a particular interest in breast cancer. His chemotherapy patients receive treatment in the Day Treatment Centre at Lake Macquarie Private Hospital by specialist chemotherapy nurses. These patients have the option of using a scalp cooling device to reduce the risk of chemotherapy-induced alopecia.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and completed medical oncology specialist training at the Calvary Mater Newcastle. He received his medical degree from the University of Newcastle, before moving to Royal North Shore Hospital for Physician training. He has been awarded a Diploma of Palliative Care (Clinical) and a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Epidemiology.
Dr Zdenkowski’s research interests include: decision-making about treatment for early breast cancer, and pre-operative chemotherapy or endocrine therapy for early stage breast cancer, and is leading a multicenter study to evaluate a decision support tool for patients who are considering preoperative therapy. This study will form the basis for a PhD thesis.
