Nick Rutherford obtained his undergraduate dental qualification at the University of Melbourne in 1993, followed by the primary fellowship at the Royal College of Surgeons London in 1995. Subsequently Nick was selected for specialist training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1997, completing undergraduate medicine at the University of Melbourne in 2001.
Nick went on to complete his specialist training in 2004 and was successful in gaining his specialist fellowship FRACDS(OMS). Nick then spent twelve months in the United Kingdom completing a fellowship in Facial Deformity, Craniomaxillofacial Trauma and Head and Neck Oncology.
Upon return from the United Kingdom Nick has worked in a number of public hospitals throughout Melbourne as well as establishing himself in private practice.
In 2008 Nick was appointed Head of Maxillofacial Surgery at Austin Hospital and subsequently in 2010 Nick was appointed as a Senior Lecturer through the Department of Surgery, University of Melbourne. Nick is a Regional Asia Pacific Faculty Member of AO Craniomaxillofacial Surgery, a not for profit organisation based through Switzerland that educates and trains surgeons worldwide in the area of craniomaxillofacial trauma, orthognathic surgery and reconstructive surgery. He also lectures at local meetings as well as courses conducted through the University of Melbourne.
