Clinical Practice

Michael Kamm has a passion for medicine. His goal is to get patients better, and he will go the extra distance or use whatever techniques or treatments are necessary to achieve that. He will be very active with drug therapy, if that’s what’s needed, but is equally skilled at using a range of holistic, alternative or other therapies.

Michael Kamm investigates and treats all luminal gut disorders. His special interests are in the inflammatory bowel diseases (ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease), and functional gut and pelvic floor disorders (such as heartburn or reflux, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhoea and faecal incontinence).

Michael Kamm spends half his time in clinical practice and half in research and teaching.

Research

Although very active in clinical practice, Michael Kamm conducts a lot of original research with a view to finding the cures or best treatments for a range of gut disorders. He publishes extensively in the medical literature, lectures widely around the world, is on the Editorial Board of several international gastroenterological journals, and is on a number of industry, government and charitable body advisory boards.

Michael Kamm has also established a charity to fund research into gut diseases. The Australasian Gastro Intestinal Research Foundation (AGIRF) is supporting a number of cutting-edge projects in Australia and abroad. These include projects researching the causes and best management of inflammatory bowel diseases and functional gut problems.
