Dr Burke studied medicine at University of NSW and graduated in 1977. He worked at St Vincent’s Hospital for 3 years before working for 1 year in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Dr Burke started working as a GP in Northbridge in 1981. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2000. From 2001 to 2005, Dr Burke worked in Saudi Arabia looking after the families of King Abdullah.
