Dr De Castro obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree and passed the physician licensure examination in 1996 in Manila, Philippines. Since then, he has worked in the local hospital and medical centre as a GP. In June 2004, he moved to Australia and worked as a GP in northern Queensland.He passed the fellowship examination of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2007. He moved to the Gold Coast area in 2008 and obtained a diploma in skin cancer surgery. Subsequently in 2010, he completed his diploma in dermatology. In 2017 he attended Monash University and became accredited to perform aviation medicals for pilots and air traffic controllers. He also performs recreational diving medicals. His special interests are chronic diseases, care of the elderly, skin diseases/cancers, and general medical conditions.
