Mel grew up playing tennis on the Mornington Peninsula, and moved to New Zealand to study medicine at Otago University in 2003. She has spent time in General Practice but has focused solely on sports medicine since 2011, and has been a registrar with the Australasian College of Sports Physicians since 2014. She has a PhD investigating the effects of exercise training on blood vessel function in patients with heart failure, publishing several articles and presenting her work at many national and international conferences. She has a Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Medicine from both Otago and Auckland Universities… because one is simply not enough! She is pleased to be back ‘home’ on the Peninsula.

Mel has professional special interests in women, child and adolescent sports medicine, and has previously worked closely with the New Zealand School of Dance. Mel has worked with a variety of sports and events, and is currently the Medical Director for Netball New Zealand and the team Doctor for the Dandenong Stingrays. She finds guiding athletes of all levels back to their chosen sport very rewarding.
