Dr Matthew Russell is a specialist ophthalmic micro surgeon, internationally trained retinal surgeon, medical retinal diseases specialist and cataract surgeon. Throughout a career that spans over 15 years, Dr Russell has built an impressive reputation for his treatment of retinal and macular diseases, including macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. He provides surgical treatment of cataracts and refractive lens exchange including a large experience with toric and multifocal lens implantation. Dr Russell was an early adopter of small incision vitrectomy surgery for epiretinal membrane, macular hole and retinal detachment. Dr Russell completed his medical degree from the University of Otago, New Zealand, before undergoing extensive specialist training. He has an impressive list of academic achievements, including three vitro-retinal fellowships undertaken at highly regarded centres of clinical excellence in the US and Canada. He received the prestigious Cedric Cohen Medal from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists for highest academic performance and was Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia, Canada.
