Dr Maryla Stelmach is a specialist eye surgeon performing plastic and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids, tear drainage system and bony orbit.
Her special area of interest is lacrimal disease, particularly blockages of the tear drainage system causing running eyes, for which she performs the most advanced, minimally invasive, endoscopic surgery. After completing her ophthalmology training at the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital in 1996, Dr Stelmach was appointed to Fellowships in Oculoplastic and Lacrimal surgery at three of the leading Eye Hospitals in the United Kingdom.
On returning to Melbourne in 1999 Dr Stelmach was appointed consultant to the specialist unit at the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital. Here, apart from performing surgery on many different cases, including acute trauma, she teaches the doctors-in-waiting new procedures and surgical skills. As part of her ongoing academic commitment Dr Stelmach has published papers on oculoplastic surgery and presents at medical conferences in Australia and overseas.
