Mary McGrath is a Clinical Psychologist and Family Therapist with over 25 years experience working in a variety of settings, including child and adolescent mental health in hospital and community settings,  adult community mental health, as well as in private practice.  She graduated from the University of Qld with First Class Honours in Psychology (Clinical and Counselling), and from the Australian National University with a Masters of Clinical Psychology. She has published in family therapy journals in the area of using metaphor and rituals in therapy; and has presented training workshops for professionals working with families throughout QLD. Mary is a very experienced Clinical Psychologist with the confidence, skill and knowledge to work with all age groups.  She is a warm, friendly and relaxed therapist who is very adept in engaging and working with children and adolescents, while relating easily to their parents.  Mary is passionate about supporting women with post natal period including those diagnosed with post natal depression.  She also works with women presenting for support and therapy relating to parenting, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, stress management, and chronic illness. Mary has extensive experience in child and adolescent assessment and therapy including intellectual assessment, and therapy for child behaviour disorders, anxiety, depression, grief and loss and due to illness, death or parental separation/divorce, along with supporting children and adolescents struggling with peer related issues.  Mary has a longstanding interest in working with gifted children and their families, from the assessment phase to providing social, emotional, educational and family supports to cater to their unique cognitive and emotional needs.  She has developed unique strategies for working with bright and busy minds, to manage anxiety, promote effective and calm problem solving, and support happy peer and family relations. Mary’s work is informed by an understanding of human development, relationships and mental health.  Mary draws on a variety of evidenced based therapies including cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness, schema therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy and family therapy to name a few.  She is committed to providing individualized therapy, and to taking the time to listen and understand each clients needs, as well as providing them with the strategies they need to meet life’s challenges
