After completing a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1984 with first class honours, Dr Hile undertook the combined medicine and surgery degree at University of Sydney. His internship, resident medical officer posting and basic surgical training was at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Advanced training in Orthopaedic Surgery was with the Australian Orthopaedic Association Sydney Northside training scheme, completed in 2000. During 2001 Dr Hile was the Lincoln Centre Fellow at Royal North Shore Hospital Hand Surgery Department with Professor Michael Tonkin, and an Honorary Research Fellow at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead with Professor David Little.
Dr Hile has researched and published articles on fracture healing and tendon repair. He is a director of the Peninsula Orthopaedics Research Institute.
Dr Hile is a specialist Hand and Wrist Surgeon with expertise in microsurgery, peripheral nerve surgery, arthroscopic procedures of the wrist, and all bone and soft tissue problems involving the hand, wrist and upper extremity. They include joint replacement and other procedures for arthritis, treatment of fractures, and tendon and ligament injuries.
Common procedures include carpal tunnel release (open and endoscopic/ keyhole), trigger finger release, Dupuytrens contracture surgery, joint replacement, wrist arthroscopy, ganglion excision, treatment of sports injuries including skiers thumb, fixation of distal radius/ Colles fractures, and microsurgical repair of nerve and artery lacerations.
