Dr Marita Long graduated from the University of Tasmania in 2007 with first-class honours. Prior to this she worked as a registered nurse at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne and then went on to work as a Maternal and Child Health nurse in Tasmania. After graduating from Medicine Marita worked at the Royal Hobart Hospital for 3 years with her final year being based in paediatric medicine and surgery before deciding to become a GP. She became a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practice in 2013 and has a Diploma of Child Health and a Certificate in Sexual and Reproductive Health.

Marita has worked in a diverse range of general practice settings in Tasmania including Family Planning Tasmania and Pulse Youth Health Service. She has a strong interest in women’s health and broader sexual and reproductive health matters. She is also qualified to insert implanons and IUDs.

Marita is a member of the Australia and New Zealand Vulvovaginal Society, the Australian Menopause Society and the Australian Society of Psychosocial Obstetrics and Gynaecology which keep her up to date with the current best evidence based approach to Womens Health.

Marita also enjoys working in the area of children’s health and also a strong commitment to providing a high level of primary health care across all the ages and stages of life.

Marita worked as a medical educator for General Practice Training Tasmania, Eastern Victorian General Practice Training and as a clinical GP educator for Dementia Training Australia

Over the last few years, Marita has been a regular guest on ABC radio Hobart on Monday evenings providing medical information to listeners covering a range of topics primarily associated with women’s health.
