Dr Maria Boulton has enjoyed working in general practice for 12 years. She completed her medical degree at The University of Queensland in 2002 and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
Dr Maria Boulton is highly experienced in all aspects of general practice. She worked at the Mackay Well Women’s Clinic which specialises in contraception, insertion of contraceptive implants, preconception advice, fertility, menopause, pap smears and osteoporosis. She has also worked as a surgical assistant and in a skin cancer clinic. She is experienced in doing skin cancer checks and performing skin excisions. She is also qualified to perform work/pre employment medicals and provide travel vaccinations.
She has always enjoyed working with babies, children and young adults, all the more so, since starting her own family. She has a special interest in the management of food allergies, eczema, anaphylaxis and asthma in children. She has provided education sessions on asthma, anaphylaxis and menopause to community groups and primary schools. She is a great support for new parents.
Dr Maria Boulton is passionate about preventive medicine, continuity of care and ongoing education. Dr Maria values good communication between patients, doctors, allied health providers and specialists and works together with high quality health care professionals to improve her patients’ wellbeing.
Dr Maria Boulton has written a book called “Dr Mum’s guide to…pregnancy” which will be published in 2016. This book is a summary of the up-to-date, practical medical advice that she is known for, delivered in her warm and caring manner. Dr Maria’s book aims to empower women with the knowledge they need to help them through the pregnancy rollercoaster and be well informed on how to improve their health and their baby’s health.
