Clinical Interests

Margie is an experienced general paediatrician who specialises in acute and chronic medical problems in children from birth through to adolescence. Acute issues include allergy, asthma, eczema and allergic rhinitis as well as continence issues, poor growth, fussy eating and unsettled infants. Margie also specialises in developmental and behavioural problems including ADHD, learning difficulties, autism spectrum disorders, anxiety and sleep. She has specialty expertise in immunisation, particularly discussion about new vaccines, vaccine safety and concerns about vaccination.

Background and Experience

Margie is an inpatient paediatrician in the Department of General Medicine, Royal Children’s Hospital and the Immunisation Service. She obtained her medical degree at the University of Melbourne and undertook her paediatric training at the Royal Children’s Hospital. Margie completed further clinical training at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada, in 2005.

Margie is also a senior research fellow at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute and an honorary fellow in the Department of Paediatrics and the School of Population health at the University of Melbourne. She obtained her PhD in 2006 and her ongoing research interests include vaccine related research, international child health, particularly strategies to reduce diarrhoea and pneumonia in children under 5 years, and common high impact clinical problems. She on the steering committee of the Australian Paediatric Research Network and collaborates widely within Australia and internationally. Margie supervises paediatric trainees as well as PhD and Masters students and enjoys teaching.

Practice Philosophy

Margie believes strongly in family centred care where both the needs of the child and the family are taken into consideration. She enjoys working closely with and has strong links with many allied providers including psychologists, speech pathologists, OTs, physios and dieticians and is a passionate advocate for her patients. She is a mother to four children, from prep to year 7, and understands the difficult juggle parents face when trying to raise healthy, strong and independent children.
