Marcus Thorne is a colorectal surgeon who was born and raised in Geelong before studying Medicine at the University of Melbourne and graduating in 1983.
He undertook surgical training at the Royal Melbourne and Alfred Hospitals, obtaining his surgical fellowship in 1991. Post-fellowship training in colorectal surgery was undertaken in the United Kingdom with positions in Yorkshire and London, including St Mark's Hospital.
He commenced surgical practice in Geelong in 1994 and established the Barwon Surgical group practice at St John of God Hospital in 2000.
His surgical interests include treating the general spectrum of colorectal disorders, performing gastroscopy, colonoscopy, laparoscopic surgery and hernia surgery. He is married with 3 children.
