Dr Malcolm Richardson (Paediatric Cardiologist)

Dr Richardson graduated from the University of Queensland in 1982. He trained in paediatrics at the Mater Children’s Hospital in Brisbane and subsequently trained in paediatric cardiology at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. During his time at the RCH he was also the Transplant Fellow. He worked as a consultant paediatric cardiologist at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow. In 1992, he returned to Australia to take up a position as consultant paediatric cardiologist at the Adelaide Children’s Hospital, later to become the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Since then he has mostly worked in Adelaide as a paediatric cardiologist although, spent some time in Sydney. He is a former head of cardiology at both the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide and the Sydney Children’s Hospital. He currently works as a senior consultant paediatric cardiologist at the WCH. He is a Fellow of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.

Since the late 1990s he has been a regular visitor to Fiji, Tonga and Vanuatu. He has had significant teaching and clinical roles in the Pacific, the latter as part of Open Heart International. Throughout his career, he has also been a regular visitor to the Northern Territory where he conducts visiting paediatric cardiology clinics.

His interests and clinical practice are heart disease in children. He has extensive experience in paediatric cardiology, including children with rheumatic heart disease as well as those with congenital heart disease. He has been a regular visitor to Mildura Cardiology since 2002.
