Dr McSorley was schooled in Queensland, and attended the University of Queensland Medical School, graduating in 1979. Following a few years as a hospital doctor, he commenced specialist training in anaesthesia, qualifying as a Specialist Anaesthetist in 1987. The following year or so was spent in a most rewarding attachment to Addenbrooke’s and Papworth Hospitals in Cambridge, England. Returning home later in 1988, Dr McSorley accepted the position of Staff Specialist Anaesthetist at Princess Alexandra Hospital where the focus involved teaching, research and extending skills in complex anaesthesia for adults in all surgical subspecialties. In 1996, Dr McSorley commenced private practice with Wesley Anaesthesia and Pain Management, although he maintains an ongoing contribution to the public system as a Senior Visiting Medical Officer at Princess Alexandra Hospital. Although Dr McSorley’s anaesthetic practice remains quite generalised, his practice has a bias towards the surgical specialties of Ophthalmology, Neurosurgery, Head and Neck, and Spine.
