Dr Leighton Kearney graduated in 1999 from the University of Tasmania with first class honours and was awarded the University Medal for academic excellence in the Faculty of Health Science. Post graduate training was undertaken at the Austin Hospital (Melbourne) and the Royal Brompton Hospital (London). Training included fellowships in non-invasive cardiac imaging and cardiac MRI. Leighton has expertise in all aspects of echocardiography (trans-thoracic, trans-oesophageal and stress testing), cardiac CT and cardiac MRI. His specific clinical interests include heart failure, valvular heart disease and coronary artery disease. Leighton recently completed his PhD studies investigating valvular heart disease and techniques for the early detection of myocardial dysfunction. He has multiple publications in high-ranked peer review journals and presents frequently at national and international scientific meetings. Leighton was recently awarded a prestigious "International Young Investigator Award" at the Asia-Pacific Society of Cardiology congress in Taiwan. Leighton has a public appointment with the Austin Hospital and prior experience with Northern Health, Eastern Health and Monash Heart. Leighton is available for consultations and stress testing at our consulting suites at Bundoora. In addition, he performs trans-oesophageal echocardiography and cardiac CT at Warringal Private Hospital .
