Following completion of a medical degree at the University of Melbourne and ten years in hospital training positions in Melbourne in Anaesthesia, Intensive Care & Emergency Medicine, I received my specialist qualification from the Australian & New Zealand College of Anaesthetists in 1999. Previously I have worked as an ambulance officer and was one of the inaugural Retrieval Aeromedical Evacuation Physician involved in the Victorian Medical Emergency Adult Retrieval Service (MEARS) for almost five years where critically ill patients were resuscitated and evacuated via helicopter and aeroplane to major Intensive Care Units in Melbourne.
Since specialist qualification, I have obtained dual post graduate qualifications in perioperative echocardiography from both The United States Ptxe NBE & the Postgraduate Diploma Perioperative Echocardiography course at the University of Melbourne. I use ultrasound techniques in my anaesthetic practice for regional nerve blocks to relieve pain and major vascular access and to monitor the heart.
Presently I work in the public & private sectors (St Vincents Health as an EMAC Emergency Management Anaesthetic Crises Instructor) after having spent eleven years as a visiting senior cardiothoracic anaesthetist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, the second busiest major trauma centre in Australia.
I have developed the Epworth CICO & Airway Team Training course where anaesthetists and nurses learn and work together on how to manage difficult airway situations in high fidelity scenarios.
Teaching and education are areas I am regularly involved in speaking about advanced airway techniques, regional anaesthesia techniques & the use of ultrasound in anaesthesia both in Australia and overseas in Malaysia & Fiji in addition to helping in volunteer Overseas medical missions in the Pacific.
